Li in same country as me

I've ruined my ability to sleep on time this week, but for some good reasons. Li, who I met years ago in Denmark when we were both exchange students, arrived in Delhi. She's on her way to Varanasi to promote literacy for 6 months. I'm quite jealous of the experience she will have and is having as it is far removed from the bubble I'm in.

Mumbai: Sasson docks and colonial architecture

One of my favorite parts of Mumbai are the Gothic Victorian style buildings that abound the southern part. The Lonely Planet has a walking tour, which we followed part of and it can be combined with a trip to Sasson docks, a bustling fishing port, and Marine drive. To finish off, climb up the intercontinental hotel for a view of Marine drive at night when the Queen's necklace is all lit up. Khajuraho: titilating tantric temples

While the Khajuraho temples are known for erotic sculpture, the sculptures depicting sexual positions represent only about 10% of all sculpture. Also, from what I can tell they aren't tantric in the pure sense of ancient tantrik scripture, but I didn't want to give up of the title. At the end of the day, the erotic sculptures to be the main draw as it's not something you find everyday and it's fascinating to see what was being produced over 1000 years ago in India as compared to many other parts of the world. Bijapur: Islamic architecture and friendly folk

It is well worth the effort to visit Bijapur (aka Vijaypura) to see the huge buildings left from the Adil Shah era (1489-1686). Get in We came from Hampi on the bus. Took a rickshaw from Hampi to Hospet for Rs. 80 and there was a bus leaving in 10 minutes at 13.00 so we were in luck. The trip took 5 hours and wasn't too packed except for a 30 minute period where a 10 year old sat ony lap while I chatted with him mom and aunties.
